autobau™ celebrates 10,000 visitors
There was once again cause for celebration on 19 December 2009 at autobau™. The interactive world of cars on Lake Constance only opened its doors in early February 2009 but by the end of the year, it had already welcomed its 10,000th visitor.
The person in question was Marion Aeschlimann, who came as part of a company outing organised by the Wolgensinger Garage in Wil. Although it has been open for less than a year, autobau™ is truly interactive in that there is always something new for the visitor. From 19 November 2009 until 28 March 2010 for example, the "Das Auto lebt" ("The car is alive") exhibition will present the complete works of graphic designer Godi Leiser. Guided tours are available for groups, while individuals can also take advantage of the tours on specific open days. As a place to meet and find out about new ideas, autobau™ is always worth a visit.

The car comes alive
autobau™ is currently devoting an exhibition to the first ever comprehensive review of Godi Leiser’s work in the automotive industry. Sketches and designs of vehicles as well as examples of his advertising from 1927 through to 1977 will all be featured.
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, Godi Leiser was one of the foremost figures in advertising and graphic design when it came to the automotive industry, with his 1951 and 1952 adverts for Chrysler very much blazing a trail by situating the product in question in a social context and targeting an elitist audience. His work for Renault between 1957 and 1960 was of a totally different kind however, when he put his graphic talents to good use for a car that was more accessible to a wider public, an exercise which saw Leiser imbue a style of advertising with quintessential French elegance. Leiser was famous for his drawings which were incredibly precise, despite looking as if they had been sketched in a few seconds, and his work as an illustrator helped fashion a new style in this domain.
The exhibition, organised in conjunction with RAID Culture, will run from 19 November 2009 - 28 March 2010. Visits should be booked in advance at www.autobau.ch/eng/events/our-events/

Romanshorn, 13 October 2009 – A few days ago, one of the first Tesla Roadsters in Switzerland was delivered to Fredy Lienhard, chairman of the board of autobau™ AG in Romanshorn.
Autobau™, the interactive world all about transport, is a haven of innovation, design and technology. Based in Romanshorn, Autobau™ is not only a meeting place for car and motor-racing enthusiasts but also an unexpected centre for future-orientated innovations. A shining example of this is the Tesla Roadster. Fredy Lienhard was recently given the key for one of the first of these cars to be registered in Switzerland and immediately took it out for a spin around the in-house track to get to grips with this future-orientated concept vehicle.
Selected visitors will be able to follow in Fredy´s footsteps and get their own up-close and personal impressions of this incredible car, and marvel at its acceleration and of course its range.

Autobau™ - the unique motoring experience centre – has come to be synonymous with well-being and relaxation.
Autobau™ - a place for car and motor-racing enthusiasts and for fans of future technology and innovations – launched a competition for visitors and all those interested in the location. Up for grabs was a weekend for two at the four-star Heiden Hotel in the town of the same name nestling close to the shores of Lake Constance, with two nights including spa package designed for people to recharge their batteries. More than 500 people took part, but the lucky winner was Fredy Frischknecht from Chur.
Welcome simplon!
The 28 May 2009 saw the rollout and official presentation of the new "Formula Student" ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) Zurich car at autobau™ in Romanshorn.
"simplon e85" is the third racing car to be built by the Akademischer Motorsportverein Zürich (the Zurich Academic Motor Sports Club, or AMZ), following in the footsteps of "albula" and "maloja". Although the concept behind the new car was ready as early as the beginning of October 2008, the construction phase did not get under way until the end of December due to many months of tense disagreements within the institute. Despite these teething troubles, the ETH Zürich team were able to keep to schedule and unveil the car at autobau™ in Romanshorn to media and sponsors, as well as performing the first rollout on the autobau™ track.

Toyota and autobau™ among the 2009 Ennstal Classic entrants
"Driving in the last paradise" is theme for this year's Ennstal Classic, running from 15-18 July 2009. For many years now, this event – one of the biggest in Austria – has taken on the status of a Europe-wide movement that attracts more and more fans every year.
This year, the "bf classic helvetia" team, with Gümligen/BE garage-owner Bruno Flückiger, will be taking part in their ninth Ennstal Classic.
Top team-members and historic vehicles are very much part of the event's tradition, and this year will be no exception. The legendary Toyota 2000 GT will be running in this year thanks to generous support from Toyota Schweiz AG, which is allowing this particular car from its in-house collection to take part in the 800 km-long classic car event. Only 337 models of the 150 HP Toyota 2000 GT were ever built, all between 1965-1970, and only 27 still exist – three of them in Switzerland, no less! Rolf Biland (7-time sidecar world champion) and Daniel Mauerhofer (CEO of autobau™ AG) make up the team for this vehicle which is bound to thrill fans and spectators alike.
"bf classic helvetia" team chief Bruno Flückiger will be acting as co-pilot for driver Helmut Pedereder, and this experienced two-some will definitely be eyeing a podium finish, particularly since their 1972 Porsche 911 T is an ideal car for the Ennstal Classic.
The 17th Ennstal Classic will get under way on 15 July in the Steiermark town of Gröbming, with contestants covering some 800 km over the next three days (including 22 special stages). The classic car rally is one of Austria's most popular events, featuring over 200 teams from 15 different countries and including legendary former racing drivers as well as stars from the worlds of television and business. Sir Stirling Moss, Derek Bell, Jochen Mass, Björn Waldegard, Rauno Aaltonen, Klaus Wildbolz, Tobias Moretti and Dr Wolfgang Porsche will be among the starters. The traditional Chopard Grand Prix will also be held in Gröbming on the Saturday.
